- A 21% decrease in new coronavirus cases worldwide was reported.
- This week marks the third consecutive week of declining cases.
- More than 12 million new cases of the virus were recorded in the week of February 14 to 21.

- The number of deaths worldwide fell by 8% to around 67,000, the first time since January that the weekly death toll has declined.
- The highest numbers of cases were seen in Russia, Germany, Brazil, the United States, and South Korea.
- Omicron remains by far the predominant variant worldwide, accounting for 99% of sequences matched against the main database.

- The only other notable variant is the delta variant, but it accounted for less than 1% of cases.
- The omicron variant, although he clarified that it remains to be seen how long that immunity will last.
