CDC Awards Grant to Strengthen HIV Self-Testing Program

San Juan, Puerto Rico— As part of National HIV Testing Day, the CDC Foundation announced that it had selected Centro Ararat the community organizations that will help facilitate access to at-home HIV tests as part of efforts to end the pandemic.

The selection of Centro Ararat hand in hand with a budget allocation that will make it possible to better reach people vulnerable to HIV and overcome barriers such as stigma and the fear of a positive diagnosis.

The CDC Foundation emphasized the importance of getting tested and highlighted that one in eight people in the United States living with HIV are undiagnosed and more than one-third of new transmissions are attributable to people who are unaware that they are living with the virus.

This grant validates our pilot program for accessing and shipping HIV self-tests, developed as part of our education and marketing plans. In line with these efforts, over the past year and a half we have invested in incorporating new technologies and optimizing the processes for shipping self-tests and preventive materials.
